WASHINGTON: Social@Ogilvy, the cross-discipline social media practice at Ogilvy & Mather, has promoted VP John Stauffer to SVP and regional strategy director, a newly created position for North America.
Stauffer, who joined Ogilvy six years ago, reports to Social@Ogilvy global MD Thomas Crampton. He started in the role on May 1.
Stauffer will work with Ogilvy’s social media teams in New York, Washington, DC, Toronto, Atlanta, Chicago, and Ogilvy West, which includes Denver, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. He will also help clients navigate new trends and shifts in consumer behavior, he said.
"The regional role is designed to serve as the connective tissue across our social media teams, which includes community managers, content producers, analysts, strategists, planners, and creatives," Stauffer explained.
Stauffer’s new role is similar to a regional strategy director position he held for two years at Ogilvy in Hong Kong, where he worked "across disciplines and across clients to deliver really integrated and creative social experiences," he said.
He added that his focus in Hong Kong was "entrepreneurial" and "about building the social media practice across 23 rapidly growing markets in Asia," while in the US he will aim to ensure social efforts are seamlessly woven into clients’ initiatives.
"One of the reasons why I took the role was because it’s a chance to work across offices and teams to help make decisions about where we invest our time and resources in terms of new platforms, technologies, and potential partners," said Stauffer.
Stauffer most recently served as VP at Social@Ogilvy for more than two years. Prior to that, he spent three years at Stanton Communications.
