Cicero Group has hired former News Corporation business editor Nick Gardner as it looks to double its corporate fee income over the next year.
Gardner steps into the new role of senior communications counsel for the agency’s corporate practice following the recent arrival of ex-HSBC PR head Mark Hemingway.
A former business editor for News Corp titles The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph in Australia, Gardner has also worked as morning editor at The Sunday Times.
Having most recently run his own consultancy, his previous PR experience also includes heading up communications at Chase De Vere Mortgage Management.
Mike Robb, head of corporate PR and digital at Cicero Group, said: "We are very lucky to have secured an ex-journalist of Nick’s calibre to support the growing PR business at Cicero. He brings an extremely strong level of analysis and challenge, which is exactly what our clients are demanding."
Gardner added: "Coming from a journalism background I know what works and what doesn’t, and too much of PR is opaque. Cicero is trying to do things differently."
