Chris Rumfitt’s recently launched agency has been tasked with securing the backing of strategic partners such as London Mayor Boris Johnson and Transport for London, to enable the 80 Day Race to start and finish in the city.
For the project brief CRC will be looking to engage with a wide range of London stakeholders including the Mayor, borough councils and the GLA.
"The race is going through a number of world cities but London would be the preference of the organisers, not least because Phileas Fogg’s journey began and ended there," said Rumfitt, referencing the fictional English gentleman in Jules Verne's 19th century novel Around the World in 80 Days.
"This fits in with London’s aim to host major world events, and chimes with a desire to promote electric car use and lower emissions."
The plans for the 80 Day Race, in which zero-emission vehicles compete over a 40,000 km journey, were announced at London's Reform Club earlier this month. The event is led by CEO Frank Manders and backed by personalities such as ex-Formula 1 driver Jan Lammers.
