HONG KONG: Global law firm Latham & Watkins has appointed Newgate Communications as its PR representative in Asia following a pitch.

The company operates in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo in the region and covers a range of practices including corporate, finance, regulatory, and disputes.

Richard Barton, managing partner of Newgate, said he had "a fascinating and challenging mandate to build the firm’s profile in the region," but did not disclose further details.

Newgate launched in Hong Kong in 2013 and has since expanded into Singapore and Australia. It operates in Beijing, Tokyo, Taipei, Seoul, Jakarta, and Ho Chi Minh City via an affiliate network.

Barton said Newgate was "building an integrated corporate, financial, and government relations capability and [continuing] to hire at all levels."
