Lucozade and Ribena owner poaches AB InBev's Michelle Norman

Soft drinks brand Lucozade Ribena Suntory has recruited AB InBev's Michelle Norman to fill the newly created role of head of external affairs.

Covering UK and Ireland, her brief is to set up the external affairs department for the brand, which was formed following the acquisition of Lucozade and Ribena by Suntory from GlaxoSmithKline last year. 

"I am responsible for three main areas – CSR, reputation management and public affairs," she said, adding that it was too early to talk about staffing her new department or agency arrangements. "I have only been here three weeks, so I haven’t decided yet what I am going to do about either issue."

Norman joins LRS from brewer AB InBev where she was head of corporate affairs for UK and Ireland. She reported to Emma Reynolds, corporate affairs director for UK and Ireland, who has restructured her department in the wake of Norman’s departure.

"I am not replacing Michelle directly," she said. "I have promoted Sara Ashby to the role of external communications manager and also made an appointment to the role of external affairs manager, which I am not yet in a position to announce publicly."

Japanese brewer Suntory, which already owns beverage firm Orangina Schweppes, bought the brands from GSK for £1.35bn last September.

It recently hired Unity to handle UK consumer work for Lucozade Energy.
