Pramana Collective brings on StumbleUpon's Mayzel

The Pramana Collective has hired former StumbleUpon director of communications Mike Mayzel as its first executive in residence, effective immediately.

SAN FRANCISCO: The Pramana Collective has hired former StumbleUpon director of communications Mike Mayzel as its first executive in residence, effective immediately.

The position is temporary, scheduled to last six months.

Mayzel is working with clients on message development, rebranding, PR plans, and media relations. The firm works with clients ranging from the consumer technology to the enterprise space.

“My role is really soup to nuts, depending on what the client needs,” said Mayzel. “I was a little unsure of what I wanted to do next, and Pramana gives me that opportunity to work with the top communications people in the world and work with great clients and businesses.”

Mayzel left his role at StumbleUpon this month; no one will replace him in the role, he said. Teal Newland, StumbleUpon's VP of sales and marketing, will manage PR for the company.

Prior to StumbleUpon, Mayzel worked at Google, where he was responsible for communications, sales, and partner development. Previously, he managed marketing communications at Elance, a platform for freelancers. Mayzel has also worked as director of PR for Engage and in roles at Porter Novelli and Technology Solutions.

Sean Garrett, former VP of communications at Twitter, co-founded Pramana with Brandee Barker, the one-time director of global communications and public policy at Facebook, and former Skype global comms chief Brian O'Shaughnessy last March.

The firm hired Facebook's former communications and public policy director Larry Yu as a partner last June.

Garrett also wrote in a blog post on Monday that Pramana is on the lookout for potential partners and principals.
