LONDON: JPA Health Communications has appointed Valerie Carter to lead its London office, the agency said on Tuesday.
Carter has worked for the health communications specialty firm since 2011 and was promoted in September when the London office opened, said Carrie Jones, principal and MD of JPA.
The position is new at JPA, a firm that provides health communications for charity, pharmaceutical, and medical device clients. It looked internally for its London office lead, knowing that Carter was qualified for the role.
“[Carter] was absolutely the right fit, having a strong base of global health policy and marketing campaigns throughout her career,” said Jones. “We feel very confident she'll be able to take our culture of client service and quality and apply that to the London office.”
She added that Carter has two core responsibilities: to serve European and global PR clients and to grow the London office.
Carter, who has 22 years of experience in global public affairs, advocacy, and media relations, will report to Jones, who works out of JPA's Washington, DC, office.
Carter has already built a full-time team of four. Jones said the London office is meant to be a boutique-style satellite with the traditional structure of Carter at the helm, leading an account director, account manager, and an account executive.
“[Carter has] been quick to expand and grow her portfolio of business, mostly of pharmaceutical and UK charities,” Jones said. “I'm grateful for [her] leadership and dedication to the agency. Her experience serving the European market will help us enhance our global services while building a thriving practice in London.”
JPA is known for its work in “influencer relations,” a targeted approach to reaching stakeholders who engage others.
“Our clients are increasingly looking for innovative solutions that reflect their evolving needs,” said Carter. “I am excited about building a team in London that will expand JPA's capabilities, broaden our experiences, and bring unparalleled service to clients in the European Union.”
Before she joined JPA in 2011, Carter served as VP of public affairs at Ricochet PR, where she managed and directed all public affairs accounts and projects, with a focus on supporting healthcare organizations.
Previously, Carter spent 15 years at Merck, where she climbed the ranks to lead the company's government affairs communications efforts with a focus on extensive grassroots legislation action and political action committee programs, as well as lobbying.
