Courtyard by Marriott brings on Catalyst as AOR

Marriott International's Courtyard by Marriott hotel brand has selected Catalyst Public Relations as its AOR for consumer PR in the US as it seeks to attract a younger consumer.

BETHESDA, MD: Marriott International's Courtyard by Marriott hotel brand has selected Catalyst Public Relations as its AOR for consumer PR in the US.

Courtyard by Marriott, which invited several agencies to pitch for the business in an informal review, officially brought on Catalyst at the start of the year, according to a person with knowledge of the subject.

The contract on the account is understood to be for one year. Budget information was not disclosed.

Marriott was seeking an agency to raise awareness for the brand, engage consumers, and target a young demographic that may not be familiar with Courtyard, according to the source.

Representatives from Marriott were not immediately available for comment.

“We're excited to further build Courtyard's strong brand and elevate the communications offering,” said a Catalyst representative.

Courtyard by Marriott, which was established in 1983, has 900 hotels in 38 countries and territories, according to the brand's website.

In April, Marriott Hotels & Resorts brought on Grey New York as its PR AOR. The firm is focused on helping the brand as it revamps to appeal to younger consumers. It also selected Grey as its creative AOR last September.

In the third quarter of 2013, Marriott International reported a 12% increase in net income, year-over-year, to $160 million. The company added 44 properties in Q3 and closed eight, leaving Marriott's total property count at 3,883 at the end of the period.
