NEW YORK: Location-based social networking service Foursquare has hired M Booth as its PR AOR, confirmed Foursquare PR manager Erin Gleason.
The scope of work to be handled by M Booth was not immediately clear. The company declined to provide further details about its relationship with the firm.
The company began an agency search in October after ending its year-long AOR relationship with Kaplow Communications. Kaplow, its first PR agency, handled messaging, media relations, and an education campaign for the check-in service.
Foursquare's annual account with Kaplow was worth at least six figures, and it was initially supported by a team of four agency staffers who reported to Gleason.
When Kaplow was hired in 2010, Foursquare had 4 million registered users, a number that has grown in the past year to more than 10 million. The service registers millions of check-ins per day.
Launched by co-founders Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai in 2009, Foursquare has rolled out various features to help businesses and brands interact with, attract, and retain consumers. More than 500,000 businesses use the Foursquare merchant platform, and the company has launched ventures with a number of large brands, including a loyalty program with American Express.
