AUSTIN, TX: Hill+Knowlton Strategies has named George Shelton SVP. He will lead the agency's reputation management and corporate practice, effective February 15.
"I'm excited to be joining at a time when the firm is taking its reach as a global player and combining it with the energy and tenacity of a burgeoning strategy firm," said Shelton.
In the newly created role, Shelton will split his time between working from home in Fayetteville, AR, and the firm's Austin, TX office. He declined to disclose what clients he will work with.
Most recently, Shelton served as senior director for insights, advocacy, and outreach at Wal-Mart. At the retail giant, where he worked for five and a half years, Shelton was responsible for promoting the company's goals and public policy initiatives, as well as working on the creative development and management of a US-focused reputation advertising campaign. Shelton also worked on issues management, message testing, and development of online and traditional engagement programs.
Shelton's pre-Walmart career included a stint at Strother-Duffy-Shelton, a Washington-based political strategy firm, as partner. He also served as director of communications at the Democratic Governors Association. In 1997, Shelton began his career as an account executive in media relations at Hill & Knowlton.
