Twenty-nine percent of UK Pinterest users earn more than $150,000 annually, while only 3% of users fall within that income bracket in the US. Most US pinners earn somewhere between $25,000 and $75,000 each year.
The majority of US Pinterest users are women interested in crafts, hobbies and leisure, fashion designers and collections, interior design, blogging resources and services, gifts, and special event items.
Yet what may come as a surprise to US marketing and communications professionals, however, is that the top interests for UK users are PR, content management, SEO and marketing, web stats and analytics, crafts, design, venture capital, and blogging resources and services. Additionally, UK Pinterest use skews significantly more male than female.
A question to consider is why are more US Pinterest users not taking advantage of the service for PR, marketing, and venture capitalism? And will they use the service more in those spaces in the future?
Of course, it's important to keep sample size in mind and remember that just because marketing, communications, and PR are not among the top interest areas among US users, it does not mean the service is not being used for those purposes.
Pinterest has attracted 12 million unique users in the US, and only 200,000 in the UK. It will be interesting to see whether the platform maintains its marketing focus in the UK.
