Galen replaces Jones as comms leader at Novartis

BASEL, SWITZERLAND: Novartis has named Michele Galen head of communications. She replaced Sheldon Jones, who has retired.

BASEL, SWITZERLAND: Novartis has named Michele Galen head of communications. She replaced Sheldon Jones, who has retired.

Galen is reporting to Joseph Jimenez, CEO.

The pharmaceutical company has also named Eric Althoff head of global external communications and global media relations, and appointed Jason Browning head of global internal communications. It also named Carrie Scott head of global corporate social responsibility communications. All will report to Galen, while Scott will also report to George Gunn, head of Novartis Animal Health and CSR.

Galen had served as VP and global head of communications and advocacy for Novartis, based in Basel, Switzerland, since 2010. She has also worked as VP and global head of oncology affairs; VP and global head of communications and external affairs for Novartis Molecular Diagnostics; and VP of corporate communications at NPC.

Prior to joining the pharmaceutical company in 2001, she was a managing director at Burson-Marsteller and an editor at BusinessWeek.
