NEW YORK: MDC Partners' Strategic Marketing Services unit, which contains its PR agencies, reported $165.5 million in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2011, as well as an $8.8 million operating loss.

For full-year 2011, the group earned $608.1 million in revenue and operating income of $21.3 million.

The holding company owns majority stakes in Attention, Allison & Partners, Kwittken & Co., HL Group, and Sloane & Company.

MDC's total revenue increased by 6.7% organically in Q4 2011 to $254.3 million. For full-year 2011, the company's revenue increased 17% organically to $943.3 million. It also reported $29 million in new business wins in the quarter.

Organic growth represents change in revenue without measuring the impact of acquisitions or disposals.

“Our momentum in the first quarter is very strong,” said Miles Nadal, chairman and CEO of the holding company, on a conference call. “The new way of approaching our business in the marketing industry is not necessarily how much a brand is spending but more importantly how effective the spend is being used, its impact on the financial metrics of our clients, and how it's driving ultimately shareholder value.”
