KFC picks Emanate as US consumer, corporate AOR

“We were impressed by the strategic and fresh thinking from the Emanate team, as well as the sincere passion and enthusiasm they have for the KFC brand,” said Karen Sherman, senior director of PR and internal communications at KFC Corporation, in an emailed statement. “We are confident this is going to be a winning partnership that delivers great results for KFC.”

Sherman did not comment further on the new relationship with Emanate, an Omnicom Group agency. A representative from Interpublic Group's Weber Shandwick, which served as KFC's AOR since 2004, was not immediately available for comment.

Kim Sample, CEO of Emanate, said via email that “KFC has been on our target list for years, and we couldn't be more excited to work with their team of passionate and smart communicators to deliver business-building results for this authentic and storied brand."

KFC is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, which also includes Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Yum! said Wednesday that its first-quarter net income grew 73% compared with the prior year. KFC reportedly saw a 2% increase in sales at established US locations, less than Taco Bell (6%) and Pizza Hut (5%), during the period.

Zeno Group is Pizza Hut's PR AOR, and Taco Bell works with Taylor.

KFC is also facing a lawsuit from a former employee who claims staffers at an Oregon location were fired for refusing to serve expired chicken.
