MELVILLE, NY: Sbarro CMO Mark Censoprano has left the company after serving as its marketing leader for two and a half years.

Censoprano, who departed Sbarro at the beginning of this month, directed marketing at the quick service restaurant chain after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April 2011. Sard Verbinnen & Co. handled crisis communications for its Chapter 11 filing.

“[Censoprano] did a very good job guiding the marketing effort during a difficult time for the company,” said Sbarro CEO James Greco. Censoprano could not be immediately reached for comment.

Greco said Sbarro is in the process of looking for a new CMO, and the company hopes to fill the role in next few months.

“We have three marketing managers who each have an area of responsibility,” he said. “They will continue to cover the full range of marketing and PR.”

Greco added that Sbarro has a “full agenda” in the coming months, launching several “big marketing and PR campaigns.”

In April, the company hired Fishman PR as its AOR to help it change the look and feel of its restaurants and launch campaigns to change consumers' perceptions about the brand. Starting this week, the business will begin to modernize 10 of its restaurants with new designs, different equipment, different pizza recipes, pasta made-to-order, and employee training programs.
