VANCOUVER, BC: Avigilon, a developer of high definition and megapixel video surveillance products and software, has hired Ogilvy Public Relations as its US AOR following a competitive review.

Ogilvy will support Avigilon on corporate communications, thought leadership, media relations, and product PR to raise awareness of the company and educate the media and businesses about the importance of surveillance security.

The account will be led by VP David Friedman and supported by a team of four out of Ogilvy's San Francisco technology practice.

Communications efforts will target businesses, government, and other groups with a need for large surveillance systems, said Luca Penati, global MD of the technology practice at Ogilvy.

“We will also be using the customer to tell the story as well, because there is nothing better than that,” Penati added.

Avigilon has not worked with an agency in the US, but decided to conduct a review because a lot of the company's sales come through the US.

“We are in a fast-growing phase as a company,” said Keith Marett, VP of marketing and communications at Avigilon. “From a communications perspective the next leap for us was the US, then we will look at expanding that globally.”

Avigilon works with Peak Communications in Canada and handles trade press in-house.
