NEW YORK: Symantec, the maker of Norton computer anti-virus software, has selected Edelman as global AOR for its consumer business unit.

The assignment expands on current work done by Edelman for Norton in multiple markets.

Edelman will be responsible for building brand awareness of Norton in more than 35 countries. The agency has worked with the brand since 2008 in regions spanning EMEA, North America, and South America.

“Norton is a global company that needs a global partner to help us communicate consistently and clearly with consumers around the world,” said Lorraine Hamby, senior director of worldwide PR for Symantec's consumer business unit, in a statement.

Symantec selected Edelman as its consumer AOR in January 2009 after a competitive review. It also picked Weber Shandwick as its corporate AOR in November 2009 to position the brand as a business leader. The Interpublic Group agency still manages corporate PR for the company.
