CNN and Fox News took different approaches to correcting their initial reports inaccurately stating that the Supreme Court had overturned most of Affordable Care Act.

CNN apologized for its mistake in a statement:

CNN regrets that it didn't wait to report out the full and complete opinion regarding the mandate. We made a correction within a few minutes and apologize for the error.

Fox issued a statement as well, but it did not include an apology for the error:

We gave our viewers the news as it happened… By contrast, one other cable network was unable to get their Supreme Court reporter to the camera, and said as much. Another said it was a big setback for the president. Fox reported the facts, as they came in.

Both networks attributed their errors to eager reporting, but will most likely suffer damage to their credibility as a result. Still, CNN stands apart for its decision to apologize for its mistake rather than continue to defend it.
