IRVINE, CA: Mazda North American Operations has hired Eric Booth as senior manager of PR, a newly created position.

Booth was most recently a VP at Hill+Knowlton Strategies where he led the Mazda account. Prior to that, he worked at Nissan North America and Zeno Group.

Booth will be responsible for managing Mazda North America's PR division, including product, corporate, and internal communications. He will report to Jeremy Barnes, director of PR and brand experience, and work from Mazda North America's corporate headquarters in Irvine, CA.

“I saw this as a great opportunity,” Booth said. “I will actually get to lead the PR efforts and make those calls, which is a different experience from when they are your client.”

In addition to a slew of car shows coming up, the automobile company will heavily promote its Skyactiv Technology, which is an umbrella name for a range of platforms that improve the driving experience while making cars environmentally friendly. The company first unveiled the technology last year.

Booth said H+K is searching for his replacement. An agency representative did not immediately return a request for comment on the process.

The firm will maintain its AOR relationship with Mazda North America. The two entities have worked together for 35 years.
