Former Paulson aide Davis moves to Team Romney

The Romney campaign called in one of Brunswick Group's heavy hitters last week.

Michele Davis, who stared down the Wall Street crisis of 2008 as assistant secretary for public affairs and director of policy planning at the US Treasury Department, told colleagues she will join Team Romney, according to Buzzfeed.

Although Davis has vast experience in financial and government PR and public affairs, she also carries “some very high-profile baggage” as a former VP at Fannie Mae, according to the site.

Davis' move comes as polls show Romney's unfavorables growing after weeks of attacks on his record running Bain Capital. Forty percent of voters have held a favorable view of the Republican candidate since May, but the number of voters with a negative view of Romney has grown from 45% to 49% in that time, according to a Washington Post/ABC News poll. Meanwhile, President Barack Obama has a favorable rating of 53% among all respondents. About eight in 10 voters from both parties see the opposition candidate negatively, according to the same poll.

Davis worked with current PepsiCo EVP of communications Jim Wilkinson at the Treasury Department. Wilkinson previously served as a managing partner at Brunswick Group and chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson.
