CHICAGO: Ogilvy Public Relations has hired Edelman EVP and consumer practice group head Susan Peters as EVP of its consumer marketing practice in Chicago.

Peters, who started at Ogilvy on September 4, is reporting to Liz Van Lenten, EVP and consumer group director at Ogilvy.

Peters' main responsibilities include providing counsel to consumer clients and working on new business opportunities. She will also develop communications strategies and branding initiatives, lead PR, purpose branding, and social media efforts, and work with Ogilvy & Mather on integrated campaigns.

Peters joined Edelman in August 1998 as VP, moving up to SVP in May 2001, and eventually being named EVP in May 2007. She left Edelman in January.

Prior to Edelman, Peters founded her own consulting agency, Events by Susan Peters.

One of Peters' main objectives is “to grow the consumer practice through food, nutrition, and social purpose,” she said.

Peters added that she also joined Ogilvy because of Mitch Markson, president of the global consumer marketing practice and chief creative officer for purpose branding, who also used to work at Edelman.

Peters said the 21-year Edelman veteran was one of her “mentors” in consumer and social purpose, so he was another “driving factor” to join the Ogilvy team.

Last month, Ogilvy was named lead PR agency for Darden Restaurants' Specialty Restaurant Group, which includes The Capital Grille. The firm was also selected as North American PR agency partner for Tourism Fiji last month.
