LOUISVILLE, KY: Carl Brazley, owner of Mo' Better Marketing, has acquired PR and advertising agency New West from Tom Howell and Becky Simpson.

LOUISVILLE, KY: Carl Brazley, owner of Mo' Better Marketing, has acquired PR and advertising agency New West from Tom Howell and Becky Simpson.

The deal was effective September 1.

Simpson left New West in May 2011 to serve as senior associate VP for communications and marketing at the University of Louisville. Howell will serve as MD of the company, while Brazley maintains his role as CEO. Mo Better's staff will move to New West's offices in Louisville.

The combined company will use the New West brand, but the Mo' Better name will continue to be used until the firm fulfills its current contracts.

The two agencies had worked together for years on various projects. There will be no layoffs as a result of the deal, the firms said in a statement. The combined firm has 17 full-time and six part-time employees. It was founded in 1971 as Wenz-Neely Public Relations before adding advertising, marketing, graphic design, and event management services. Weber Shandwick predecessor Shandwick bought it in 1989, but Simpson and Howell acquired the company from the Interpublic Group firm in 2002.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the year Simpson and Howell bought the firm from Weber Shandwick. They bought the firm in 2002.
