AMEX's Peggy Maher joins Barclaycard as CMO

WILMINGTON, DE: Barclaycard US, Barclays' credit card business in the US, has appointed Peggy Maher to lead marketing and communications.

In her new role, Maher oversees the company's marketing and communications, including corporate communications, brand management, customer communications, digital marketing, marketing analytics and compliance, and new product development. She reports to Barclaycard US CEO Amer Sajed and global CMO Nina Bibby, who is based in London.

Maher replaces Michelle Bottomley, who left the company in September 2011 to start her own consulting business after three years as CMO and, later, acting global CMO. She will lead Barclaycard's marketing and communications department of 120 employees and has four direct reports, including MD of communications Kevin Sullivan.

Maher also joins Barclaycard's US executive committee and global marketing leadership team.

“[Maher's] outstanding reputation and track record of success make her the ideal person to lead our US marketing and product development efforts,” Sajed said in a statement.

Previously, Maher spent 25 years at American Express, most recently as SVP of international marketing capabilities and customer advocacy, leading consumer and business card marketing in 22 international markets. She also oversaw product development, loyalty offerings, customer engagement, and strategy while at the company.

Prior to joining American Express, Maher worked at CBS in New York.

Barclaycard, part of Barclays' retail and business banking division, employs 1,300 people in the US, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
