LEUVEN, BELGIUM: Opthalmic medicines developer ThromboGenics has hired Wouter Piepers as global head of corporate communications, a new position at the company.
Piepers, who started in the role August 16, oversees corporate marketing and branding, PR and public affairs, media relations, digital, and internal communications at the biopharmaceutical company. He is based in Belgium and reports to CEO Patrik De Haes and CFO Chris Buyse.
Previously, Piepers was VP and head of global communications at Ansell Healthcare. Former General Electric communications executive Frank Mantero replaced Piepers, who left Ansell August 15 after eight years with the company.
ThromboGenics plans to launch eye disease drug ocriplasmin in the US, pending FDA approval. Earlier this year, the company signed a partnership with Novartis-owned eye care company Alcon to commercialize ocriplasmin outside the US.
Based in Leuven, Belgium, ThromboGenics also has offices in Iselin, NJ and Dublin, Ireland.
