The Red Consultancy has appointed a Huffington Post reporter to the new position of editorial manager for its Play division.

Ted Thornhill joined the firm from Huffington Post UK, where he was a news reporter. He previously held positions at The Daily Mail's website, Metro online, and The Sun's TV magazine during a 15-year career in journalism.

Thornhill will report to Play division MD Isobel Coney, who leads the team specializing in lifestyle and leisure.

He will work across a range of accounts that include drinks, sports, travel, home entertainment, and telecoms with a responsibility to drive coverage on- and offline, as well as providing the agency with news insights and consultancy.

Andrew Baiden, group MD, said Thornhill will work across a range of fast-moving accounts such as Amazon, which generate a large number of stories.

He said the agency wanted to bring in journalists from “select media every couple of years” to refresh its writing and news credentials.

“Coming from MailOnline and The Huffington Post UK, [Thornhill] brings current thinking from two of today's most successful news businesses,” said Coney. “With some of the most famous and newsworthy brands in the UK as our clients, [Thornhill's] role will be to work with our clients and our teams to find even more story angles and headlines to drive coverage and engagement off and on-line.”
