This year marks Adfero Group's fifth annual Holiday Giving Program, a matching fund that enables Adfero employees to double their donations to any organization of their choosing. This company-wide altruism is a continuation of Adfero's communications work throughout the year for pro bono client No Greater Sacrifice, a nonprofit dedicated to the children of fallen and wounded service members.
Adfero will make a $250 donation to a nonprofit organization specified by each employee. Furthermore, recognizing that many people were eager to make their own financial contributions in addition to the $250 gift, Adfero will match any personal donations up to $250.
In the past, Adfero employees have chosen to support a diverse range of organizations, including Girl Up, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Oxfam America, and DC SAFE. In 2011, Adfero donated a total of $8,325 to more than 20 charities; this year, Adfero is thrilled to report that we anticipate combined donations totaling $13,000, a 36% growth from last year. All 33 employees have pledged their participation this holiday season, and many will gift upwards of $750 to their favorite charities as a result of the program.
Multiple donations this year will honor an Adfero Partner, Chris Battle, who is currently in the midst of a tough fight with kidney cancer.
"Chris has been a mentor, supervisor, teacher, inspiration, fierce Office Olympics competitor, and most importantly, a source of laughs for me over the past few years," said one employee, who chose to allocate funds to DC-based Action to Cure Kidney Cancer. "I chose to donate to ACKC because of the truly inspiring contribution Chris has made to my life."
Most Adfero employees contribute to organizations that hold personal meaning for them.
"I discovered my passion for working in developing countries as a teenager during summer trips to Zambia," explained one staffer, who has chosen to donate to Family Legacy Missions International, an organization that supports orphaned Zambian children. Another employee cited the loss of a childhood friend to cancer as her motivation for contributing to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Since the program's conception five years ago, Adfero has seen a 69% increase in total contributions. Adfero looks forward to continuing this tradition of giving for many years to come.
