WASHINGTON: Kris Balderston has left his post as special representative for global partnerships at the US State Department to join Fleishman-Hillard as senior partner and GM of the firm's Washington DC office.

Martha Boudreau, president and senior partner for the US Mid-Atlantic and Latin American regions, was previously leading the DC office on an interim basis. Former DC GM Bill Pendergast now works in Fleishman's Dallas office.

At the State Department, Balderston partnered with private businesses, nonprofits, and other groups. He has also served as deputy secretary to the cabinet and deputy assistant to President Bill Clinton. Balderston also worked as then-Sen. Hillary Clinton's (D-NY) legislative director and later as her deputy chief of staff.

Balderston has also served as an aide to former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, as well as former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, both Democrats.

In December, Fleishman hired Marco Dell'Era as GM of Italy.

A Fleishman representative could not be immediately reached for comment.
