LONDON: Edelman has poached The Red Consultancy's Paul Gittins to lead its healthcare team.

Gittins will serve as group MD of Edelman's health and bioscience practice. He will replace Steven Spurr, whom Edelman promoted to UK COO last year.

Gittins is MD of Red Consultancy unit Red Health, which he set up with colleague Pat Pearson in 2007. He will make the move to Edelman in September.

Spurr will continue to handle both the MD and COO roles at Edelman until then, at which point he will also become chairman of Edelman Health UK alongside his COO duties.

“[Gittins] is a proven creative health innovator, and adding his expertise and passion for this industry-leading team will only strengthen Edelman's health offering,” Spurr said.

Gittins has a background in pharmacology, providing consulting services to pharmaceutical companies, charities, and trade bodies.

One focus of Gittins' new job will be “injecting creativity and consumer understanding into health campaigns,” he said.

Red Consultancy deputy CEO Amanda Duncan said the agency will announce a replacement for Gittins in due course.

“We've been aware for a while that [Gittins] was looking for a new challenge and have been supportive of his decision to move on,” she added.
