Shell's Heitmann to join Bayer AG

LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY: Royal Dutch Shell communications leader Herbert Heitmann will join Bayer AG as head of a newly created communications and government relations unit, effective September 1.

LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY: Royal Dutch Shell communications leader Herbert Heitmann will join Bayer AG as head of a newly created communications and government relations unit, effective September 1.

Heitmann will succeed Michael Schade, who will join Bundesliga soccer club Bayer Leverkusen Fussball GmbH on July 1 and become its MD in October.

Heitmann has served as EVP of external communications at Royal Dutch Shell since 2010. He was previously CCO at software giant SAP, which he joined in 1998 as head of executive board communications.

He is also a founding president of the European Association of Communication Directors, Europe's first network for communications executives.

Earlier in his career, Heitmann was a process engineer at Procter & Gamble, worked at the J├╝lich Nuclear Research Center, and served as a political adviser to the German Bundestag (parliament) and to the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology.

In April, Ray Kerins, former VP of external affairs and worldwide communications at Pfizer, joined Bayer in the newly created position of SVP and head of communications and public affairs.
