SIDNEY, NE: Outdoor sporting goods retailer Cabela's has issued a review for a national PR agency partner.
The company, which was founded in 1961, sent out an RFP to find a firm that can help manage its communications and get the “Cabela's brand message out there to the public,” said Wes Remmer, communications specialist at the company.
It is searching for a firm to help with plans for next year, but he added that the brand may hire a firm in 2013. He declined to comment further on the process.
Remmer added that the company has not had a PR AOR for at least the last year and a half, but it works with Legacy Marketing Partners on some national event-planning and logistical efforts.
Representatives from Chicago-based Legacy declined to comment on the review or the firm's work with Cabela's.
In addition to the review for a national firm, Cabela's releases RFPs for local PR agency help whenever the company opens a store, said Remmer. The firms usually work with the brand for a few months before the store opens and then a short time afterwards.
This summer, the company is planning to open two stores in Denver and one in Green Bay, WI, he said.
Cabela's profit was up 73% in the first quarter, beating expectations. It reported a 28.7% increase in total revenue, year-over-year, to $802.5 million in the first quarter of 2013. The company also posted a 41% jump, year-over-year, in retail store revenue to $486.7 million in Q1.
