American Airlines names Eberwein comms head post-merger

FORT WORTH, TX: American Airlines has appointed Elise Eberwein to lead communications following the company's merger with US Airways.

FORT WORTH, TX: American Airlines has appointed Elise Eberwein to lead communications following the company's merger with US Airways.

As EVP of people and communications, Eberwein will oversee media relations, internal communications, social media, public affairs, and human resources for the combined company, which will be named American Airlines. The merger is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.

Eberwein is EVP of people, communications, and public affairs at US Airways and its holding company, US Airways Group. She joined America West Airlines, which later merged with US Airways, in 2003 as VP of corporate communications. Prior to that, she spent five years at Denver-based Frontier Airlines, where she led media relations, employee communications, customer relations, community relations, and government affairs. Eberwein began her career as a flight attendant for TWA.

American Airlines and US Airways unveiled the leadership team for the new company on Monday. Additional appointments include US Airways' Stephen Johnson as EVP of corporate affairs and American's William Ris as SVP of government affairs.
