WHIPPANY, NJ: Pharmaceutical giant Bayer has promoted Mary Lou Panzano to serve in the newly created role of VP and head of internal communications for the US.
She officially started in the position on October 28, reporting directly to Ray Kerins, SVP and head of communications and public affairs. He joined the company in April from Pfizer.
Panzano, who has been with Bayer since 2008, most recently led all internal communications for Bayer's Pharmaceuticals business in the US, including strategic communications planning and execution of business, leadership, and site communications.

“Across the country, we're really trying to focus on more proactively engaging and educating our employees , as well as our external constituents, such as stakeholders, clients, and patients, so part of the work we'll be doing is to move that theme forward in our communications strategies and plans,” explained Panzano. She added that she has a team of "about four or five direct reports."
A key member of the US communications, government relations, and policy leadership team at Bayer, Panzano is also tasked with creating a cross-subgroup internal communications strategy in the US and supporting existing communications efforts within various other subgroups.
On the Bayer Corp. side, Panzano will work with Kerins and the US Country Council to support executive communications, as well as ensure consistency among executive and employee communications.
In her previous role at Bayer, Panzano helped lead internal communications changes, including bringing staffers from four different locations under one roof in its new headquarters in Whippany, NJ, earlier this year.
Panzano also handles communications for Bayer HealthCare's US Women's Leadership Initiative.
Prior to Bayer, Panzano worked at Pfizer, leading retiree relations and communications and managing communications for the company's global compensation and performance management programs.
