TORONTO: The Toronto Board of Trade has hired Philip Preville as director of public affairs, following an intensive, eight-month search.

Preville was a regular contributor to Toronto Life, and also wrote the magazine's politics column, including its City State blog. He is also the author of the magazine's most recent cover story, "The Good News About the Bad Times", about Toronto's plan to become a global financial centre.

The public affairs position at Toronto Board of Trade had been vacant since July, when Glen Stone resigned to accept a position as director of communications, official opposition, at Queen's Park.

The Toronto Board of Trade is the country's largest chamber of commerce, representing nearly 10,000 business and individual members.
