WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA: The Sunset Strip Business Association hired SJ Communications for PR support after a competitive review. SJ will work to promote the strip's dining, nightlife, hospitality, shopping, and valet businesses to tourists and California residents.
An RFP for the account was issued in late fall last year. Todd Steadman, executive director of the Sunset Strip Business Association, said after initial proposals were submitted, SJ and three other firms were invited to interview before the winning agency was selected.
Steadman's goals included finding an agency “to help leverage the happenings that are on the strip, and also promote the businesses that are on the boulevard within the 1.3-mile stretch of sunset.”
The Association and SJ are still in the process of developing a marketing and PR plan, but it will likely include events, media relations, and online components.
Krysty Ronchetti, owner of SJ, noted the firm's work will include promoting Sunset Strip's entertainment offerings to potential travelers, with an equal emphasis on reaching out to local residents.
“Tourists are very important but since less people are traveling... they want to make sure they are reaching out to their local market too,” Ronchetti says.
The Association previously handled most PR work internally, although it occasionally hired agencies to work on specific projects or events. It did not disclose the budget on the account.
