“Not a hair is out of place,” stated Morley Safer in a brief preview of this Sunday’s 60 Minutes' interview with Vogue editor Anna Wintour. While Wintour’s bob has remained in its place, in formation and time, it can no longer serve as a metaphor for her quiet and stoic communications strategy.

Stripped of her “armour” – how she described her in-door sunglasses habit during the 60 Minutes preview – she also made an appearance at the 92 Street Y, where, according to WWD, she said she’s been working with Mayor Michael Bloomberg on a plan to get customers back into stores.

Is this ...

A) Wintour’s acceptance of and adaptation to a new-age fashion stardom? She seemed to say so herself -"Today's reader knows so much more about fashion." Or ...

B) A last resort to get Vogue’s September issue to once again weigh more than the models it features; or

C) both?

WWD also reports that "Wintour said that editors are 'in deep discussions' about Vogue’s future online, and breaking Vogue.com away from Style.com, which will happen sometime next year."

The mainstream is hungry for the fashion celebrity, so maybe all these public appearances will help a struggling industry. Let's just hope there's no reality show to follow.
