Recession or not, journalism schools are graduating thousands of eager reporters and editors into the real world this spring. But, says North Georgia College & State University professor and former reporter Ron Martz, "The harsh truth is the news business can no longer support the number of journalism/mass communications graduates being produced each year."

In a column in Editor & Publisher, Martz advises universities to specialize graduates for a more niche media environment by making journalism no more than a minor or requiring a second major.
