WWD reports that the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Vogue, and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg are working on a global retail initiative to stimulate shopping, particularly with regard to fashion. "Fashion's Night Out" will task stores in global markets with Vogue distribution to offer various promotions to attract consumers, such as in-store events, a pop-up shop, and celebrity and designer interaction, at the start of New York Fashion Week in early September.
The objective, said several of the 100 or so US retailers that have agreed to participate so far, is to offer a fun evening of shopping in order to boost business and creatively transform stores into more entertaining theaters of commerce, rather than the usual, now overused tactic of discounting.
