NEW YORK: NBC Universal has promoted Cory Shields to EVP for global policy strategies and alliances.

NEW YORK: NBC Universal has promoted Cory Shields to EVP for global policy strategies and alliances, leaving the top communications post at the network empty. Shields had been the EVP of communications at NBC Universal since June 2006. Prior to that, Shields held several roles at NBC Universal, including director of media relations at NBC News, VP of communications at MSNBC, and VP of corporate communications at NBC.

No replacement has been named yet, Shields told PRWeek.

In the newly created position, Shields will work with the company's legal and government-relations team on anti-piracy matters, and strengthen relationships with trade and public interest groups. He will report to Jeff Zucker, CEO and president of NBC Universal, and Rick Cotton, general counsel, and give up all communications duties.
