TORONTO: Edelman has named Heather Conway as its CEO in Canada, one month after her predecessor departed from the agency.

Gail Becker, who heads Edelman's Western region and is the Canada chair, said Conway's recent experience working with multiple marketing disciplines played a role in her hiring. Most recently Conway was EVP of marketing/public affairs for Alliance Atlantis.

“[Conway's] experience as a communications and marketing executive makes her uniquely suited considering the way this business is moving,” Becker said. “You really need to have a holistic approach now.”

Conway will oversee more than 130 staff members in Edelman's three regional offices in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. Becker said Conway, who was not available for comment, is stepping into a “thriving” business that enjoyed “solid” growth last year.

“In this economy, that's remarkable,” she noted. With few exceptions, Edelman Canada has experienced low staff turnover, she added.

“I think [Conway's] challenge is going to be the same challenge facing the rest of the industry,” Becker said. “As the industry shifts, PR needs to continue taking the lead.”

Conway, who also previously worked for TD Bank Financial Group, will report to Becker. She will be based in Toronto.
