James King has joined PRN as SVP. He will oversee a team that will lead initiatives to expand the reach of PRN client content, leveraging some of the company's services such as PR Newswire for Journalists. King previously cofounded GlooMedia, a company that transforms digital and analog content into consumer mobile e-commerce. He is transitioning out of his duties there.
The announcement follows a PRNewser story that discussed another staff realignment at the company. Rachel Meranus, VP of PR at PRN, would not confirm the number of people or the titles of those who were dismissed under the changes. Meranus wrote in an e-mail to PRWeek that the shift “is not at all about cutting costs.” Rather the company is both eliminating positions and adding new ones in order to support a “newly aligned sales and support organization.”
In November 2008, PRN announced a number of cuts, including 25 positions across departments, as well as six openings in its new audience development group. In March, the company cut less than 2% of its US workforce, but again, Meranus stated that the company was hiring based on its business needs in the technology area.
