The US Open, held in Flushing Meadows, NY, is no stranger to logos, sponsorships, branding, and advertising. But Powerade, along with spokeswoman Venus Williams, is making waves in a different way for its Powerade Zero sports drink: a water taxi. The company is sponsoring a free ferry service from East 35th Street in Manhattan directly to the United States Tennis Association Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, from August 31 to September 6.

I took advantage of the service last night and tried some of the Powerade Zero products, though I passed on the free T-shirt. The boat was branded (photo after the jump) and TVs inside played ads for the new products. While the ferry service isn't faster than the 7 train, it did have great views of the city (and the new CitiField), a cool breeze, and got people excited for tennis.
