NEW YORK: The 2009 BlogWorld and New Media Expo has selected Porter Novelli as its AOR. The conference will take place October 15 through 17 in Las Vegas.
This is the third outing for the annual event, which is dedicated to promoting the blogging industry and new media as a mainstream news source and targeted advertising medium. Rick Calvert, CEO and cofounder of the BlogWorld and New Media Expo, said that part of the reason it selected PN was because it has “reach into the traditional media space,” and is also “comfortable” in social media.
One objective of the PR effort is to reach out to companies and other audiences through both the social Web and traditional media.
“For every company that is using social media, there are hundreds of others that don't,” said Calvert. “We can't reach those businesses through new media. Our goal is to enhance and speed up the process of the revolution of new media.”
The firm was chosen without a competitive search or RFP process, according to Calvert. PN will lead the PR efforts surrounding the coming event, which will include media outreach efforts, on-site support, and other PR services. The firm will also work with agency partners Shift Communications and FutureWorks PR. The latter firms will focus heavily on strategic and logistical issues such as conference speakers.
FutureWorks PR was the conference's AOR last year; The Bohle Group was AOR in 2007, the first year that the annual event took place. However, Calvert said the intent is for PN to remain a long-term partner.
