TARRYTOWN, NY: Bayer HealthCare tapped Omnicom Group and WPP Group for its global marketing task, which includes PR, digital, consumer and professional communications.

Arthur Higgins, CEO of the Bayer HealthCare, said in a release that the German company launched a review to increase consistency across disciplines and improve performance and efficiency for its brands. He also said the company expects the consolidation to provide around 10% in savings in communications.

Prior to the review, which launched in mid-2009, the company said it worked with more than 400 agencies. The review will affect all of the healthcare unit's 50 brands, including those in pharmaceuticals, animal health, consumer care, and medical care.

The consolidation is effective immediately and will take place over the next two years, said Susan Yarin, director of global communications at Bayer HealthCare. It is unclear at this time what agencies will be selected for what tasks.

In recent years, Bayer HealthCare has worked with Sensei Health, Fleishman-Hillard, Hill & Knowlton, MS&L, Edelman, Cohn & Wolfe, HealthStar PR, Ketchum, WeissComm Partners, and Ogilvy PR Worldwide.
