AARHUS, DENMARK: A new iPhone mobile application for PR and marketing pros was released in late February by a Denmark-based group, allowing users to track brand and company mentions by the hour. The Reputation Scanner takes note of online mentions for selected key words, providing links to that content with customizable settings.

“We created this app to enable PR and communications professionals to stay up to date when they're traveling or away from their computer,” said Morten Nielson, one of Reputation Scanner's developers. The team is comprised of three developers, who each have a background in media.

“If you're a marketing or PR manager at a company and you have more than one brand that you need to follow, you can do that,” Nielson said. “You can search by the last 24 hours, by the last seven days, whatever you need for your brand. This is customizable.”

The app, which currently costs $1.99 at the Apple store, can also track people mentions, allowing PR pros to keep track of CEOs and members of their C-suite. Users can also choose to monitor topics on select Web sites.

Last June, MWW Group launched a free app for PR, marketing, and advertising pros, M.insight. The app was made available on iPhone/iTouch, WindowsMobile, and Blackberry devices, aggregating feeds based on industry.

Nielson said his team is preparing to launch a series of apps, the first of which will roll out in two months. Though he declined to give specifics on what functions the apps will provide, he said they will be related to the PR industry.

“This is spreading mainly by word of mouth,” Nielson said. “People in the industry are telling their friends about it, and we've already had downloads from 17 different countries.”

In its first week of release, Nielson said he did not yet have figures on the total number of downloads.
