Yesterday, the NFL announced that the 2014 Super Bowl will be held at Meadowlands Stadium in New York/New Jersey. USA Today reported on the possibilities for other cold-weather cities:

"This is clearly a 'now' moment," said New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch. "It's a game-changer."

Tisch can envision other northern cities trying to follow New York's lead. Boston? Chicago? Philadelphia? Seattle?

While it does seem surprising that the game would be held in an outdoor stadium in the middle of winter, I think this provides opportunity not only for other cold-weather, outdoor stadiums, but also a wide variety of retailers, sponsors, and marketers. The official mittens of Super Bowl 2014. Promoting portable outdoor heaters for tailgating. Team scarves like Hogwarts. This could be fun!
