The Arthur W. Page Society has appointed PRWeek and DMNews publishing director Julia Hood as its first president.

The Page Society is the professional organization for senior PR executives and chief communications officers. Hood will serve as strategic partner to the Society's board of directors and its chairman Bill Margaritis, SVP of global communications and investor relations at FedEx.

The newly created president position replaces the former executive director role held by Tom Nicholson, who is leaving after his three-year contract expired. According to a spokeswoman for the Page Society, Nicholson is considering his options and looking to move back into the corporate sector. He formerly held senior communications positions at HSBC, Sears, and several PR agencies.

After a decade-long association with PRWeek, Hood will leave Haymarket Media at the start of July. She begins her position with The Page Society on July 12.

“I've had 10 amazing years at Haymarket and especially at PRWeek, but I'm excited by my new challenge at the Page Society," Hood said. "I'm really happy I will still be working with the PR industry, especially during such a dynamic time.”

Hood was editor-in-chief of PRWeek from 2002 until 2008. Prior to that, she was San Francisco bureau chief and a reporter on the magazine.

Lisa Kirk, managing director of Haymarket Media's Business publications, said, “Julia has made a significant contribution to the development of the PRWeek brand over the last decade and leaves it in an extremely strong position. We wish her well in her new role and we are glad she is staying in the industry she loves.”
