Edelman acquires Dutch food and health firm

NEW YORK: Edelman acquired Hinfelaar PR, making the Dutch firm its fourth acquisition in the past seven months.

NEW YORK: Edelman acquired Hinfelaar PR, making the Dutch firm its fourth acquisition in the past seven months.

Since March, Edelman has acquired The Centre, a public affairs firm in Brussels; Significa, a brand marketing firm in Brazil; and, most recently, Vollmer PR in Texas.

Hinfelaar, which focuses on food and health communications and is based in Baarn, Netherlands, will retain its brand. The firm's founder, Marc Hinfelaar, will lead the consumer, health, and food teams for both Edelman's Amsterdam and Hinfelaar's Baarn offices.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Edelman said it now has 50 staffers in the Netherlands and revenues are estimated to be around $5.8 million. Hinfelaar, which was founded in 1998, has seven employees. Its client list includes Boehringer Ingelheim and Pfizer.

"With this acquisition Edelman strengthens its position as one of the largest PR agencies in the Netherlands," said Annemieke Kievit, GM at Edelman Amsterdam, by e-mail.

Consumer and health are considered two of Edelman's largest global practice areas and the firm said it considers Amsterdam a hub for many of the firm's European clients. Edelman also announced the launch of Ruth, an integrated marketing unit, earlier this week.
