Just in case you have extra room in your vintage-looking, messenger laptop bag custom stitched for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod, Apple unveiled updates to its MacBook Air laptops yesterday.

Just in case you have extra room in your vintage-looking, messenger laptop bag custom stitched for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod, Apple unveiled updates to its MacBook Air laptops yesterday.

The new models are lighter, more powerful, and cost less than their predecessors, which were launched in January 2008. Apple CEO Steve Jobs also gave a sneak peak to Apple's new Mac operating system, called Lion.

But most important, and technologically relevant in the brave new mobile world, the new laptops and software are outfitted with iPhone and iPad-like technology, like multi-touch capability on the mouse and track pad. The event, held at Apple's Cupertino, CA headquarters, was called “Back to the Mac.”

Other product announcements include:

-A Mac software App Store to be launched in 90 days.

-FaceTime, the popular video calling feature on the iPhone and iPad, will be available on Mac.

-New GarageBand software.

-Feature updates and additions to its iMovie software.

NYT reporting from the event quoted analysts saying the new laptops were so nimble they could potentially compete with the iPad for the same customers.

Now just wait a second. There's plenty of room in that messenger bag for both, right?
