NEW YORK: Porter Novelli promoted Barbara DeBuono to global director of health and social marketing and also hired Susan Hayes and Cheryl Nigro to lead the firm's Novartis and Merck accounts.

DeBuono, the firm's first chief medical officer, is also taking over responsibility for the New York healthcare practice. Joseph Landi, who was named EVP and director of New York healthcare in March, left Porter Novelli four months later.

DeBuono continues to report to Julie Winskie, global president of clients for Porter Novelli.

Hayes, who owned her own agency called S. Hayes Consulting, was named partner when she started in August. Nigro also joined Porter from her own firm, Rethinkit LLC, and was named EVP. She started October 4. Hayes and Nigro report to DeBuono.

The firm also restructured its life sciences practice earlier this year when Carin Canale-Theakston, the then president of the practice, departed to start her own firm, Canale Communications.
