At this year's annual New York Women in Film and Television (NY WIFT) Muse awards, honoree Cindi Berger, CEO and chairman of entertainment PR firm PMK-BNC, sat at the same table as honoree Vanessa Williams and A&E Networks CEO Abbe Raven, among other notable women in the entertainment industry.
As she stood up to give her speech Berger jokingly said, “Thank God I don't have to read from the Torah,” referring to the nerve-racking spotlight of a Bat Mitzvah. She continued to talk about what inspired her to go into entertainment PR, including a magazine article about publicists and her love for the entertainment industry, in-part related to an affinity for now-client Robert Redford.
But at the heart of the event, and what seemed to be the underlying theme of the organization, Berger and other honorees acknowledged the need for women to champion and inspire each other in a man's world.
It's food for thought that PR folks, hyper-sensitive to the damaging or salvaging role of perception, should not only understand but also revisit…often.
